Windows 98 booting problem

I triied booting my Dell computer but i am getting a NAV auto-protect message "unable to determine the location of the configuration files". I tried to boot in Safe mode but am getting same message. Any one has a fix for this?

How old is your computer? Is it a laptop? Have you made recent changes? Is the OS Windows 98 or Windows 98 SE? How much RAM? How bing is the Hard Drive?

Have you ever replaced the CMOS cell?  Have you checked the BIOS settings to see if the default settings are being used?
