Win Vista..... Partition recovery issue (please help)
    « on: November 14, 2011, 12:12:59 PM »
I had two partitions in my 200GB hard drive i.e. C: and D: drive....I reinstalled a fresh copy of winVista?
I reinstalled but messed up with partitions................during installation no pop up come to me regarding partition..i done it by default what could i do for installing windows.....but when it was complete, it now only showing C: drive with 200(aprox) capacity..........the space earlier consumed by D: drive is still occupied but files are not showing in C:
I feel good if i can see things like before......same setting of partitions that i was using earlier and it will be highly appreciable if i got my files back in D: where it was before.......but if i cant, i don`t wana ran a recovery software coz it will not show files in order that they were placed before....i am wishing to recover the partition into earlier mode only......

Your wording is confusing. What I get out of it is that you used to have two partitions (C: and D:) and now you only have C: ? So you need the data that used to be on D: ?

Yes I had two partitions.......two partitions had gone while installing fresh copy of windows.
now i got only one partition altogether occupied by whole disk volume..
Now, I want same files and folder structure that used to be like before when there were two partitions.

So that means that you can't recover those files because the new partition has covered the whole drive. If you change back to having two partitions, the files that you used to have won't be there, but you can still do this if you like it structured that way.

You need to resize the C: drive so that you have space for a D: drive. For this I would use BootIT NG http://www.mediafire.com/?snlpireazzbbylq

You need to write this program to a disk so that you can boot ur comp from it. I don't have the CD version so if you don't have a floppy, you'll need to use something else.

Oh, yes you probably can. I was unaware of that feature of Vista.

Ok .. but this would not place the files and folders in new D:  that was used to be like there previously.

For that I guess have to ran a data recovery software? what you say?

Basic file management skills will accomplish what you want to do...
After creating the partions you want then you want to create the folders/directories you want and move your files accordingly...

As to imaging apps doing it for you unless you created an image beforehand to re-create what you want it ain't gonna happen after the fact...
