Blank screen after startup
« on: September 08, 2005, 08:38:13 AM »
I am running an older Compaq DeskPro with Windows 98.  Has worked fine until this week.  Now upon startup it shows the Compaq screen and then goes blank with only the message, "Parity Check 2" showing in the upper left corner.  Any ideas?  Hard drive crash?  Any HOPE?

That's a memory (RAM) error, Teach.

Reseat the ram, then try again. If that doesn't work, and you have more than one RAM stick in your machine, remove one stick at a time then reboot, and see if you can isolate the faulty bank.
There’s no limit to what you can achieve if you don’t mind who gets the credit.

Tried removing the RAM sticks and replacing them and rebooted.  Nothing!  Anything else?

Insert only one RAM stick. Keep repeating this until you have tested all RAM sticks.

    How has this problem occured?
