Trojan...
« on: January 01, 2012, 08:57:31 PM »
     preface - I know I've posted a lot of virus questions here and a couple years ago i learned is better just to defend and take care of my computer so I don't have to post here. But this is just getting dumb.
     problem - so for like, a year my computer was defenseless and i go on about my ways downloading everything semi-desirable. Then I decided to get smart and installed COMODO suite. about 4 days later my friend from out of town uses my computer for one night and gets this trojan. GGGRRRRRAAWWWWW!!! whatever.
             anyway, the virus was like a fake removal software that kept popping up asking me to buy the software. I found a serial code on google to stop these pop ups, but the directions on how to uninstall it didn't work. and now im left here, unable to install anything, unable to open some software, and just generally screwed because I can't use some of the software I paid for. I can't run HiJack this, Malwarebyte's doesn't run, I can't even access the path where the virus.exe is. Where do I start? I still don't know anything about this stuff. :(

Hi, try to boot up in Safe Mode with Networking and see if you can able to update and scan using your Malwarebytes.

If same problem, wait for SuperDave.

Hello and welcome to Computer Hope Forum. My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer.

1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.
5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line.
*************************************************************************
Please download and run the below tool named Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) which may help allow other programs to run.
Save Rkill to your desktop.

There are 7 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click Rkill and choose Run as Administrator

You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

* Rkill.exe
* Rkill.com
* Rkill.scr
* WiNlOgOn.exe
* uSeRiNiT.exe
* iExplore.exe
* eXplorer.exe
Once you've gotten one of them to run then try to immediately run MBAM.

Download ComboFix by sUBs from one of the below links.  Be sure to save it to the Desktop.

link # 1
Link # 2
If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:

* Tools->Options->Main tab
* Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

Close any open web browsers (Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc) before starting ComboFix.

Temporarily disable your anti-virus, and any anti-spyware real-time protection before performing a scan. Click this link to see a list of security programs that should be disabled and how to disable them.

Right-click combofix.exe and select Run as Administrator and follow the prompts.
When finished, ComboFix will produce a log for you.
Post the ComboFix login your next reply.

NOTE: Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Remember to re-enable your anti-virus and anti-spyware protection when ComboFix is complete.

As soon as ComboFix if finished running a log will pop up. Just copy and paste it in your next reply.

    You can look for it at C:/ComboFix. If you can't find it please do this: Delete your ComboFix from your desktop.

    Please download ComboFix from BleepingComputer.com

    Alternate link: GeeksToGo.com
    If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:

    * Tools->Options->Main tab
    * Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

    Rename ComboFix.exe to commy.exe before you save it to your Desktop
    Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools A guide to do this can be found here
    Click Start>Run then copy paste the following command into the Run box & click OK "%userprofile%\desktop\commy.exe" /stepdel
    As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
    Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console[/list]

    Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

    Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

    Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
    When finished, it shall produce a log for you.  Please include the contents of C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

    If you have problems with ComboFix usage, see How to use ComboFix
