Internet Explorer = unavailable
« on: September 09, 2005, 06:06:48 PM »
I don't know what the problem is. I just started Internet Explorer as usual and it keeps saying that this is unavailable, but I know that it can't be my connection because AIM and Mozilla Firefox - which I'm, using right now - is working. I don't know where to check for the problem and *censored* Micro$oft wants me to pay them $35.00 for asking them a simple question. What should I do about this problem?

I'm assuming that the opening homepage is unavailable.

The first link is offline and the second one requires Internet Explorer 5 or greater

        You're right.

How do you access Internet Explorer?
What happens when you do this?
Do you get a 'warning box' or do you get an IE screen?

No, I get neither. I get

        Action canceled
Internet Explorer was unable to link to the Web page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable.

I tried different sites but if they work for Firefox, why don't they work for Internet Explorer?

What you are getting is in fact an IE screen.

          Try
          1. Start
          2. Settings
          3. Control Panel
          4. Internet Options
          5. Security tab
          6. Reset all security zones to Default

          And/or

          1. Start
          2. Settings
          3. Control Panel
          4. Internet Options
          5. Advanced
          6. Restore Defaults button.

You may need to do the following as well

          1. Start
          2. Settings
          3. Control Panel
          4. Internet Options
          5. General tab
          6. Remove cookies, temporary files and history

          Kudos to Raptor.

          If that fails

I am not convinced your computer is clean.

When I tried your method I saw the aim window which usually  means Explorer is working, but I've tried Explorer again and it doesn't work but I'll try your method once more. And I am sure my computer is clean, I use Spyware Doctor reguarly.

masterlegolas3..... Couple of things ..... Which O/S are you using ?
When is the last time you ran your anti virus .....?
            did this just start ?

Have you tried shutting down and booting up in the safe mode and running your Av scan from there ?

            let us know

            dl65 ::)
If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.

Where do I look for O/S?

I run my antivirus every night- Micro$oft anti spyware beta and Ad-Aware Personal

This just started when I opened up my computer when I came back from school.

Whenever my computer boots up, I press F12, and it shows me this list. I don't know what to pick for safe mode to run. I have XP.

                Are not antivirus programs.
