How to disable PS/2 mouse check on start up
    « on: December 06, 2011, 05:31:00 AM »
I recently replaced my PS/2 mouse with a USB one, but each time I start up the comp, an error appears at the POST stage saying 'PS2 mouse not found. Press F1 to Resume'. I looked in BIOS and there's no option to disable the PS/2 mouse (and I've checked several times). In Device Manager, there is no PS/2 device listed, I disabled the two Human Interface Devices that didn't have USB beside them, to no luck.

I'm using Windows XP, AMD Athlon 64 processor, American Microsystems MIS MS7191 motherboard.

Is your computer still able to function normally despite the error message? I checked your motherboard manual:
http://hostfile.org/E7191v1.2.pdf and was not able to find any details on the error.

You can always get a USB to PS/2 adapter for cheap on newegg:

I wonder if you need to access the BIOS settings and disable "Resume by PS/2 Keyboard" and "Resume by PS/2 Mouse".  I don't know whether that would resolve this; it's just a thought.  See page 3-16 of the manual.

      Thanks for the replies.

I thoroughly checked every option on BIOS and didn't see any mention of PS/2 anything, on Peripherals or any other menu option. I can't access the manual link posted above, it says there's an error on the file, so I can't check the pages you mention unfortunately, I looked in Google for another version of it but couldn't find one either.

Here it is, straight from the MSI site:

        Thanks for the link.

The BIOS is American Megatrends Version 080012.

Edit: I found the 'Resume by PS/2 Mouse' but it was already disabled.

2nd Edit: I found an option in BIOS under the 'Standard CMOS features menu' called 'Halt On'. I changed it from 'All but keyboard' to 'No Errors', but it seems by selecting No Errors, I won't get any warning if an error occurs on startup. This doesn't seem ideal, is there any balance I could reach here?
