My moniter - HELP ME!

Hi, I have a toshiba flatscreen computer and my problem is that when I turn my computer on, the moniter doesn't show anything. I know the computer is on but the screen is black. Nothing shows up. I've made sure all the cables are connected properly but it still won't do anything! please help! :'( :(

Do you see the raster image (three different colored bars moving up and down) on the screen before it goes black?  Do you see a black display with a blinking white cursor, or just a  black display?  Is the power light on the front of the monitor on?  If it is on, is it yellow, blinking or green?
