Linux distro for old computers

hi i have a IBM Thinkpad 600 and tried alot of linux distros and they all dont work
SPECS:IBM Thinkpad 600
Intel Pentinum 2 (300MHz I Think)
CD-ROM Installed
256 MB RAM
Windows XP Worked on it.
Help plz

    I have an old medion computer that had 256 mb ram< I upgraded it to 1 gb and it worked wonders! check out crucial or one of the other ram chip sellers it is worth the cost! linux runs great! check out ubuntu is is good for beginners!
