Author Topic: Internet Explorer crashes when I try to play video (Read 12851 times)

I have 3 user accounts on my system. Me , my wifes and a guest account. When were logged in to my wifes account and try to access any video over the Internet I get a window pop up telling me IE encountered a error and needs to shut down. This does not happen on the other 2 accounts. They work fine. I tried adjusting all the setting I could think of. What could be causing this only one one account. I am Firewalled, have virus protection, pop up blocker and anti-spy ware. I ran scans on everything and shut everything down. This didn't help.

AXEMAN, I'm going to save you time and frustration... Switch browsers... You will be much happier... Personally, I like MSN Explorer (free). YOu can download it here... http://www.download.com/MSN-Explorer/3000-2104_4-10119669.html?tag=lst-0-6 ... I use a different version, but this one works just as well.... Also, here is a more popular browser called Mozilla Firefox (also free). You can download it here... http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ ... IE is probably the worst browser around. It may never get fixed... :-/ Try switching.

I agree with Flame...switch browsers...

but if you don't want to do that...

all I can ask is: What version of IE is installed? Is it up-to-date?

I really don't know what to say...

I still suggest that you upgrade to Firefox. It is more advanced, and has a higher security level than IE. It has some awesome features too.

But, back to the problem. -- All I can suggest is Reinstalling IE. Is the video trying to play using Windows Media Player?

Yes WMP. I use Windows Pro Corp. Isn't IE a component of that? How would I uninstall and re-install just IE?

Okay..well..this brings me back to the age old question. Is WMP updated? IE and WMP TRY and operate seamlessly, so if there is a problem with one, there is gonna be a problem with the other.

You necessarily wouldnt have to uninstall the current IE, just try downloading it from Microsoft. I have never tried it, so I am not sure that it will work. But I don't believe that it would be a problem.

However, if you want to uninstall the old IE, just go to

Control Panel
Add or Remove Programs..
And along the side, click on "Add/Remove Windows Components"
Find IE
Uncheck it

Yes WMP and IE and everything is up to date. OK this may sound stupid but....That's how I thought you removed IE. I did that and was still able to surf the web...how's that!

I've used all the available tools. I am Firewalled. No virus, no spyware/adware was found when scanned. I have privacy service, pop up blockers, banner blockers.

Uninstall Internet Explorer completely and remove all plug-ins.
