shared broadband connection
« on: September 11, 2005, 08:24:04 AM »
I want to share a broadband connection (wirelessly) and without  installing an ethernet PCI card (my computer has 'low profile' PCI  slots).
Is this all I need?

Broadband connection adn ADSL modem (already installed)
wireless hub
wirless ethernet card (USB adaptor type)

also, I read that some USB modems can't support hubs,
mine has 2 ports, one from the line to the modem, and one from the modem to the USB port. Will it be able to support the hardware?

What type of USB ports does your Compaq have? 1.0, 1.1 or 2.0 (Hispeed)?

Is the ADSL modem wireless as well?

Hi,
Sorry for the late reply, I have a USB adsl modem, (not wireless) my computer is a dell optiplex gx150 and I think I have 1.1 (sometimes I get messages in windows saying 'this device can perform faster' when plug in some things in the USB port)

Your computer has an onboard NIC:  #5
and 2-USB1.1 connectors:  #11
