    Hello everyone and happy holidays

Desktop PC started freezing up on me and giving us the zigzag/blue screen.  Message appeared that nv4_disp is running in 'loop'.
Restarted in safe mode, my computer, hardware, with no change.

    Here is info on PC
    Vostro 400 from Dell
    Intel Core 2 Qhad Q6600(2.4GHz, 8mb,L2cache, 1066Fsb)
    WindowsXP
    2Gb DualChannel DDR2SDRAM 800 Mhz, 2 DIMMs
320 Gb serial ATA Hard Drive 7200 RPM
256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

Read about uninstalling and reinstalling videocard....so son already uninstalled card and is asking where the drivers are to reinstall!!!!!  Have all the disks that came with purchase, just not sure which one holds video drivers.

My thoughts are that the videocard is kaput which brings me to what do I do next and with which card can I replace...and of course how.

Sorry about the # of questions but unsure what to do next.

    Thank you

Go to the dell support website, enter your service tag number, and download the driver for your video card and then install it. Let's see where we are then.

Thanks for helping out so quickly.

It's a race to get on Dell's site and enter code before green screen freeze pops up.  Finally got to download 'Intel driver 158511' from 'video' downloads but screen again went green; not sure if it had finished installing.

Outside of large font size, PC allowed (past tense) typical loading sequence until it would konk out.
Also had message about the gamma adjustment or gamma value beyond support value (not sure if this means anything)

Now, I've tried x 10 times with same blue screen appearing with message technical info "stop 0x000000EA".  Beginning dump of physical memory and physical memory complete.  Same message to contact system administrator.  Does not allow me to do anything else except depress power button to shut down.

      What's next?

          Update
Was able to download two drivers specific for 8600 GeForce on Dell site; did not download driver for 8300 (was i correct not to?).

Still running online and have not had green/blue screen except it still is fuzzy.

          Ready for next move.

You need to install the driver after you download it.

          Also, Download BlueScreenView:
          http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

Then you grabbed the wrong driver...

Agree with patio - you're trying to install the wrong driver. Also, completely uninstall your current driver before doing anything else (http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_13955.html)

OK; went to add/install and removed NVidia; upon reboot PC recognizes GeForce 8800 (?; thought I had 8600).
              What should I do next?

Download the CORRECT driver from the Dell website and install it.

When I enter my Dell support code, it only opens to 1 video driver: by Intel.  Do I download this one o do I search for the NVidia 8800 which is what my PC lists OR the 8600 which is what the Dellshipping invoice lists?

If there is only one driver listed for your specific system I suggest you download and install it.

Installed the Intel driver which is what is listed; received message at end, the system cannot configure.
I understand that mys system is listed with the Intel driver but as I read through the Dell support page, this driver is for the Intel Graphics 3100 video card.
My invoice and computer new device recognition software lists and sees NVidia.

Do I try installing only the 8600 st?

I thought you said it only listed the Intel driver. Where are you getting the nvidia driver from?
