Yes but you didn't buy the OS, or at least you didn't buy all the rights to it.  You only bought the service they provide under the license agreement.  That's how they see it.

What your telling me its illegal to change a registry setting on a computer you own

It's breach of contract.

are you guys for real.
I live in several quantum states.

Way i look at it is if they don't want you to have aero on your computer they shouldn't sell you an operating system with it
They sold you a license to use the Operating System. That's how software has worked for quite some time.

its up to the owner whether they turn it on
No, it's not. Again- License. Sort of like how having a drivers license gives you a license to drive, but not a license to run over a bunch of Nuns "What! it's my car I can run over whatever I want".

i can understand the forums worries about encouraging people to do it but no link was put up explaining how its done, just a statement that it was possible (and very easy to do).
From what I read, it's not easy at all and seems like a genuine waste of time that could be used to install a free Linux distribution that doesn't require workarounds that break the EULA for basic functionality.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

That's not the first time I've heard "time" and "sentence" in the same sentence, myself. Though I typically don't randomly associate significance to the allocation of words in a sentence.
