    Problem reinstalling Acrobat 9.0
    « on: February 03, 2012, 05:49:35 AM »
The Acrobat 9.0 did not work after I remove/uninstall some of the components that was previously installed with the Adobe CS4.
Every time I launch Acrobat, it runs the Windows Installer instead, and end up with an error:

Error 1402. Could not open key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponent\MSFS.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

I try to uninstall it (from Add/Remove Program, and also launch the installation CD), but it ends up with error and is terminated.

This is one of the problems with Suite styles of software apps....when one component is removed for whatever reason other components may not run properly.
Many times removing it will leave behind remnants that will not cooperate with a re-install of that component such as dead end registry entries which it sounds like above...
You could try Revo uninstaller on the Acrobat component to see if it'll clean it out enough so it works....barring that you're probably looking at a complete re-install of the Adobe Suite package...

      Hi Patio.

Acrobat 9.0 is not listed in Revo Uninstaller Pro.

Before this I've tried Perfect Uninstaller v6.3.3.9 but the free trial version won't complete the uninstallation unless registered.

I've also tried the Uninstall Tool by CrystalIDEA but it ended up at the same registry error.

Then my last option is what you may have to do...

I've tried that. I'm able to uninstall all other component, left only the *censored* Acrobat.
I've also used the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool from Adobe itself to clean any possible leftover.

Problem is, when I insert the disc and start the suite installation, the Acrobat component is greyed out i.e. it's identified as installed  :-\

How did you do the uninstall ? ?
I believe it has it's own uninstaller from the Start.Programs menu...

I run the setup from the disc, it lets me choose which component to uninstall, so I select all (included Acrobat), but at the end I get error uninstalling Acrobat.

There is no individual uninstaller for each component.

Is it safe if I just delete all Acrobat related folder and also registry entries, and try to reinstall?

I'm afraid it may mess up things further.

Use the CS4 uninstaller from the Programs menu as suggested...
            Then re-boot and re-install CS4..

There is no uninstaller from the Program menu.
I can only uninstall it from Control Panel or run the disk, which the result has been mentioned above.
