Strange problems with my computer

Hi, new to the forums and was wondering if anyone had a clue on what's going on with my computer.

Everything is ok with my computer but there are some strange problems I'm having. Windows Media Player will not play and this message pops up:

[size=13]Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file is either corrupt or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play.[/size]

WMP is fine and I have made the steps to try and fix the problem but no luck and the files I've tried to play are certainly ok. I don't understand what's wrong with it. :-/

Also, the 'Recent File' menu in a program such as WordPad is always blank. Why is this? I get these two errors aswell sometimes when I already have a document open and then I try and open up another one:

Any help would be appreciated.

What type of files are you trying to play.

What's the ext.

WMV and MP3's.

Do these files play somewhere else.

How can you say that those are not corrupted.

Data corruption is often caused by faulty RAM or simply that the RAM modules are not properly seated.

Click on the link below and download the .pdf file which will show you how to re-seat the RAM.

Check the security of all wiring and cables whilst you're in there.

Then try running MemTest86 - overnight - to see if any errors are reported.

Also run the drive manufacturer's diagnostic diskette over the drive.
