    Dual operative systems and MISC.
    « on: February 19, 2012, 08:04:57 PM »
Hey everyone! First post, hopefully the last if i get satisfaction!

My computer is very slow, and it has a ridiculously high cpu usage for even the smallest of tasks. It is using 899 mb of memory (all time) ... I have tried AVG and spybot, to ease the worst (if u have any suggestions on this side topic i am more than ears)

But then one day i got the idea (today) to remove my extra operative system LINUX (which i asked the the person i bought the pc from to install, i wanted to try it - i bought the pc used. there is a windows 7 sticker, but i have no way of tellling ig it is an original windows, i assume it is). I have been reading numerous posts about this topic in various other forums, but i got lost alot, because i only have a "primary partition" - and lots of them to be honest =S - simply i am headless and in dire need of a helping hand.

I am familiar with computers, but i am no "geek" - so please explain yourselves in detail =)

If you need more detail than i have provided just ask, and i will give them (if you are confused by the language in the screenshots, just ask me and i will translate or use google translate, it is Danish =)

netnajs, Firstly welcome to the Ch forums. Although a current computer issue has brought you to our midst i really hope that contrary to your "hopefully the last if i get satisfaction!" will not turn out to be the case. Not that any of us wish you to have "more" problems but just that we like to keep members and active ones at that. Not only do WE offer help but we hope that you will also.
Now to your issue. I would first try to see what program(s) are affecting this slowness of your computer. You can do a search on msconfig to see what programs you have running at startup automatically. Then disable as many as you can and one at a time reintroduce them (leaving the ones disabled that you don't need at startup) and that may show you what program(s) are causing so much CPU useage. Also cleaning your cache and cookies as appropriate may help. If you haven't performed one in a long time a HDD disc defrag might also help.Once you have done these things please come back and tell us if anything changed for the better. It may become necessary to ask for the assistance of our very competent people on the Virus/malware forum but for the moment try the suggestions i have given you.truenorth

Hey TrueNorth =) Thanks for the nice welcoming.

I did as you said, opened msconfig and it seems i have but the most necessary files activated on start-up, i remember disabling a lot of unused services a month ago.

I am unsure what you mean with "hdd disk defrag" if you mean the standart defrag, when you right click a drive, press settings and then defrag - then i have done it a few weeks ago, but after typing this post i will do it again, just to make sure =)

Do you persay have a suggestion on the dual-system question too? in the screen i posted you can see that i have 5 primary partitions "primær partition" in danish, which confuses me because all the help i found on line said that there should be a primary and a secondary (perhaps even a tertiary) partition. i have 5 primary partitions. Can i delete any of them, and if so which one contains my linux? =)

You said the cpu usage is high. Which process is using the cycles?

          ctrl+alt+del

Then i pressed proccesses - at the moment it is relatively still. the only task above 3 in cpu usage is taskmgr which varies from 1 to 50 - and the only open programs i have is my kontrolpanel and firefox (not streaming or something like that, just webpages).

If i open minecraft, for example, it will within seconds be at almost 100 % cpu usage. and just moving the mouse rapidly can cause fluxuations from 10 percent to 44% cpu usage =O My best guess is that my computer is just one giant virus/malware nest from all the dirty **** i've been watching =)

Well i see with the suggestion from Allan you are now on the way to the destination (virus/spyware) forum i referenced in my initial post. Be patient there as the process will be quite thorough and long. However the end result will most likely be a vastly improved computer experience. The people assisting you on that forums are the only ones allowed to assist there so you will be in qualified hands.I would NOT do anything re your dual boot system yet or coincidentally to your virus/malware issues being dealt with. If you still feel the need to do something there you can make that decision once your other problems are resolved. truenorth
