    Will not boot
    « on: February 18, 2012, 09:57:57 AM »
I turn power on and all I hear is a whirring getting faster and faster (guessing fan or hard drive spinning) and nothing more.  No beeps, no signal to monitor.  Nothing.  Tried multiple times - same.  Working fine with no problems until now.  Dell with Vista OS.  Suggestions?

I would open up the computer and see if you can hear where that sound is coming from, I think that will tell you where the problem is. Let us  know where you think it is coming from.

It is the fan running at high speed.  When I power on, orange light stays on and nothing happens other than the fan running.

Stop using the PC right now...
Remove all power...remove the CPU fan and take it with you to a PC shop and have them match up a suitable replacement...
Do NOT buy a cheap one...

So the running fan is the problem?

Yes, it sounds like it  ;D  However, if you still have problems you still need that fan if it is making that noise.
