    Windows 7 64bit - Programs won't update?
    « on: February 24, 2012, 04:21:23 AM »
Recently, I noticed that the same programs (Nightly and Utorrent) ask for the same update over and over again, for example
I get a message for Nightly about anew version, I approve, also I give permission to connect this program to the internet or whatever crap windows tells me to do, and the next time I turn on my PC, it's the same process all over again. like I didn't update at all.
My windows Firewall is off btw.
I guess this will happen now with any program wanting to update..

can anyone help me solve this? I'm a noob at this stuff.

You could always go to the program's website and download and install the latest version...

uTorrent does the same to me. No idea why it keeps happening. Too lazy to check for the reason.

For Firefox/Nightly/Minefield/etc, if you install more than one (say, Nightly and "standard" firefox they will overwrite each others settings. So when you start Firefox it will see that the last version to start was nightly, and was later than it's version, go "ok, good, I don't have to check for updates". Then it will save it's version. When you start nightly, it sees the older version and goes "ah! they must have just installed me, so I better check for an update!" And it goes about the update check.

Don't know about uTorrent though. I myself disabled uTorrent's updating for reasons I've forgotten but am not curious to remember.
