im trying to format my computer by using cmd. it keeps asking for a volume label, so i type "vol c:" and it gives me a code i enter it and it still keeps saying incorrect! i need help!!

You cannot format C: from Windows ...this is by design.
What exactly are you attempting here ? ?

this is my moms laptop, she took it to someplace at her school and they did a virus scan on it and stopped it while in process, now it wont boot windows. so im trying to reformat the hdd while i have it booted from a windows 7 cd.  it keeps asking me for a volume label  and i give it the correct one and it keeps saying incorrect. i have reformated hdd a thousand times and never had this happen

Are you typing the volume label or the volume serial number?

C:\>vol
 Volume in drive C is Win07
 Volume Serial Number is E4DB-A92A


Here, the volume label is Win07

If the volume label has any spaces, use quotes around it.

Was 7 originally installed on that laptop ? ?

The Win7 boot DVD does NOT ask for a volume label so you're not telling us everything here.

Hi

Not very shiny to format the recovery partition on an acer laptop. You are better if it's not to late to use the acer recovery partition to reload windows onto the Laptop.
At the white ACER BIOS screen, hold the Alt key and press the F10 key simultaneously to start the recovery
