    DCHP Access problems
    « on: April 07, 2012, 11:05:56 AM »
-I'm currently unable to connect to the internet on one of my computers due to the DHCP client not starting at all due to "Error 5: Access is denied."

I've tried going into REGEDIT and setting permissions for "NETWORK SERVICE" to full control in both the Tcpip and Dhcp directories, but still encounter the same problem.

    Any suggestions?

Regedit is not the place to start/stop services or permissions...
Describe fully what Registry hacks you did prior to this happeneing.

    Some more information is needed.

    What kind of computer.
In windows it is never recommended to modify the registry for standard network connections. The Network Wizard has the options needed.

      leonidus2012,

Its not really helpful to us if you post what your processor is, and how much ram you have, Because that really doesnt matter in the case of a DHCP problem.

Chances are that you have set up a Static IP through Control Panel, But not set up the DNS to go with it.

There are a few options for a DNS, You can use your ISPs (I.E who provides your internet, For me, VodafoneAU), Or you can use Googles DNS.

Now, To fix your issue, I reccomend that you check the following and post the results here:

Start Menu > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings (on the Right).

From there, You should be able to find the appropriate adapter... (LAN, or WLAN).

Select the appropriate adapter, And double click it

      Double Click TCP/IP Properties

and ensure BOTH options are set to Optain Automatically.

This.  You should not need to muck around with services' permissions, unless we're dealing with an ancient server here.  There was a known issue with the upgrade of Windows Server 2000 to Windows Server 2003 - but this does not apply to you.

Has this computer had any other problems?
