Blue Screens A CONSTANT OCCURANCE..Could this be a virus?
    « on: April 17, 2012, 09:50:18 PM »
I have had nothing but problems from day one with this laptop. Just today in the middle of watching You Tube Blue Screen came. Something about _power_ all I could see before the count down went black. It gets really hot. I have it on a cool pad. The Blue Screens happen all the time. Sometimes the laptop just shuts itself off. Just last week my dvd drive wouldn't stay closed. I run malware and super anti spyware all the time and I can't rid the machine of Blue Screens.

    Advise?

    Download BlueScreenView:
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

Also, do you have an anti virus app installed and resident at all times?

"I have had nothing but problems from day one with this laptop." Is this laptop still under a warranty? If yes then proceed to exercise it. truenorth

Is the laptop still under warranty? If so, I agree with truenorth - send it back.

Unfortunately the O/P is of the opinion due to it being purchased in 2009 that it unlikely a warranty still applies. However 2 areas  still may exist for remedy. We at this time don't know the brand and model of the laptop but in fact some brands did have heat issue (that occasionally resulted in computer combustion). So investigate if your brand/model may be one of them. The other point is given your initially reference to "It gets really hot." While cooling pads can be of some use in reducing a heat issue no computer should be so constantly "hot" as to require the use of one. The unit should have been built so as NOT to REQUIRE the use of a cooling pad. So because of the heat it would be appropriate for the computer to shut itself down as they are designed for protection (self preservation so to speak) to do that. It needs to be determined why it gets so hot. Some causes can be fan failure or malfunction. Also poor internal circulation or vent port obstructions can cause heat build up. Unfortunately most users should not attempt too much 'repair" on a laptop. However you can safely remove certain covers that access the battery/the HDD/the ram. You should remove those covers and examine the interior for dust, etc.Do you notice changing sounds coming from the fans on the computer when it is being used?truenorth
