Photoshop CS5

When I crop a picture in Photoshop CS5 and I hit the word CROP the screen turns blank (white all over) and the picture vanishes.

Can anyone help a slow coach aged 73 please?  Many thanks.

you have to select the appropriate area using the crop tool first.

Thank you for your prompt reply, which is GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Will try cloning again when I have time, probably tomorrow or late this evening, and let you know the outcome.

By the way, why does my profile say that I have never thanked those who help me?  Maybe sometimes I failed to do so not out of negligence but simply because my memory plays tricks with me. If I have failed someone, I APOLOGISE WHOLEHEARTEDLY.
