    Hard Drive Overusage
    « on: April 27, 2012, 08:13:30 PM »
My computer has been acting very strangely recently. When restarted , everything appears fine until after about a day of use, when it becomes VERY slow. I pinpointed the problem to the hard disk when I noticed that the hard disk light stayed on continually when it froze. This happens every day, regardless of what I do. I have defragmented, gotten rid of thirty or so unnecessary startup programs but nothing works. Sometimes, after being slow, it spontaneously becOmes fast. I have to be able to use this every day without constantly restarting. Please tell me if you have any tips on how to fix this problem.

You have already done the usual ting.
At this point you must get a spare hard drive,
    - if you don 't already have one.
Other things might cause those symptoms.  But never underestimate any symptoms of hard drive failure.
    Better safe than sorry.
BTW: Reconditioned Hard Disk Drive is OK from a reputable dealer.

Life expectancy of any HDD is not easy to predict.  Some HDDs will last for years even after being reconditioned.
But when you get any warning - take action!

      Try this:

Click Start > Computer > Right click the C: drive and select properties. Click on the tools tab. Under error checking click on check now. Make sure "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" are both checked. You will have to restart the computer for the disk check to start.

Can you post the computer model as some have some diagnostic utility features to test hardware components such as the hard drive or RAM modules?

I have ASUS U50F and I've already tried disk check. It says the disk is fine.

Thank you so much. You were completely correct. Norton was the problem and after disabling it, my computer had absolutely no issues. Thank you so much!  ;D
