problem with dvd rom and floppy disk
« on: September 18, 2005, 08:11:23 AM »
I ve got some problem with my floppy disk.
when I enable my floppy disk in the bios, the computer said that the floppy disk(s) fail (40).  When I try to use the floppy disk, even i ve inserted a disk, it still said 'please insert a disk'.  The floppy disk's light is always on even i disable it in the bios.  I ve got 2 floppy disk.  both of them like that.

And, I ve got a problem with my dvd rom as well.
i can find the dvd rom in the device manager.  But even i ve inserted a disk, it still said 'please insert a disk', which is the same as floppy disk.

Recently, I ve added a new hard drive.  is it there have conflict?

thank you vy much

Floppy disk flat ribbon cable is inserted the other way around.

Make sure the red line corresponds with pin 1.

Pin 1 is designated on both FDD and mainboard FDD connector.

Red line is on the IDE cable.

Turn IDE cable around so that the red line is aligned with Pin1.

If you have no idea what I am on about, check the mainboard manual.

Do the hard drives you installed work correctly. Do the terms "Master" and "slave" have any meaning to you in the computer sense? Are both floppy's 3 1/2" size. If you look very closely where the floppy cable plugs into the floppy you may see a "1" there. The cable will be red striped on one side (although may be a small stripe). THat side of the cable may need to go to Pin 1.

Did this machine used to function with two floppy drives? If so, the A drive will be the one on the end of the cable and the B drive will be further up the cable.

Let us know.
