    MS Essentials won't update
    « on: May 22, 2012, 08:47:42 AM »
I run WinXP with MS Essentials. I had the yellow shield telling me I had updates. They seemed to install ok but after installation the yellow shield came back telling me to install the same updates. I ran a quick Malwarebyte scan and found 3 adware items which I removed. I installed the 3 MS Essentials updates again and got the same result. After installing the updates, I was not asked to restart the computer. I am not sure but I thought I was asked to restart on previous updates. I don't usually do updates manually because I am set up for auto updates. Right now I am running a full MS Essentials scan even though MS Essentials says everything is ok.

Any ideas why these updates are apparently installing ok but within a few minutes seem to magically uninstall? Thanks for your help.

I'll check when the scan is complete although I'm not sure I understand your question. Doesn't Essentials update to the latest version automatically?

Oops. Sorry, I didn't see that a thread had already been started on this problem. Hopefully MS will get this solved asap.

I did a Custom Install and the yellow badge has not reappeared.

I was referring to the other thread started by Helpmeh. I started this thread to ask about 32 vs 64 bit.

I don't think it had anything to do with the update fix, although I don't know what that is. I uninstalled/reinstalled MS Essentials but it was the same version as far as I know. After doing this, I still had the yellow badge icon telling me I had updates to install. I installed the updates and the yellow badge icon came back in a couple minutes. Decided to try again. When I click on the yellow icon, I am asked if I want to install updates or do a custom install. This time I picked custom. All 3 updates where already checked and I simply hit the install button. The yellow badge icon has not come back for a few hours now.

Scratch everything I said - the yellow badge icon is back telling me I have updates. Yikes!

It's a bug with the updates. Don't worry about it.

Thanks - I needed that. Yellow icon is still off so looks like issue may be resolved.
