« on: September 23, 2005, 01:59:43 PM »
After disignated still time, monitor displays DPMS power saver mode instead of screen saver?  Unable to get computer to power up.  What to do?  Complete black screen.  When I press monitor munu button, DPMS box appears.

More info, let's see.  Computer was in shop 6 months ago having windows xp reloaded in anticipation of being a 'helper' computer for Towing business.  Just hooked it up, added DSL and all was fine.  Used a couple of times to check email and suddenly wouldn't boot.  Lights on cpu are on but blank screen on monitor.  When I press menu button on  monitor the box saying 'DPMS power saving mode' appears.  Shut the power down and back on MANY times, pressed keys MANY times and finally left it off.  Three weeks later, today, turn it on and it boots up nicely, all is well.  15 minutes later enter the room after being idle and blank screen is there.  Have shut it cown with master off/on switch and completely shutting down the power strip.  When I power up, can't hear anything from cpu except the fan and monitor displays dpms box.

If the computer is still under warranty, return it.

If the computer is no longer under warranty, check for loose cable connections inside and outside the computer.

Can you try a different monitor then turn off all the power saving things?

        Merlin,
Julie/JEnglebrecht if that's what you mean by name changing.  Thought I'd be a little more personal.  Oops.
        Fed,
Will try it tonight with home monitor.  Let you know.

Check the DPMS (energy-saving) setting in your video adapter card software to make sure the timing for going into standby/off mode is not too short. The monitor should not go into an energy-saving mode until after at least 30 minutes of non-use.

mine are set to never.......control panel......click the display icon.....click adapter tab.....
