Didn't realise it was internal.

I believe it is is an external drive at present, but he is talking about "slaving" it, which is something people do to an IDE drive when mounting it internally in a PC. If when doing this both IDE channels already have master devices, then it is necessary to add the problem drive as a slave. I assumed he was splanning to take it out of its case and put in in a PC.

Understood...
My whole point was to be prepared beforehand as you can't tell how long exactly file tranfers will run before it starts to die...that's all i was saying.
Having the free space all set up beforehand and turning off any unneccessary background apps etc. can all be done before introducing the HDD and powering it up.

P.S. The only difference in the procedure for SATA HDD's is to make sure they are on SATA 3 or higher on the MBoard connectors...
