Can I I try running i5 CPU on XP SP2
    « on: June 25, 2012, 03:01:36 AM »
    Hi all,

    I have XP SP2 discs.
Recently I paid 500 dollars to a PC professional to build a new PC for me.
The new hardware includes Intel CPU i5, ASUS Motherboard H61, 500HDD, 1 piece 4GB RAM (DDR2).

I want to install XP SP2 on this new PC, but I am not sure if the compatibility between XP SP2 and i5 is stable enough,
I hope it will not cause Blue screen of death.

Please  advise me what I shall avoid if I want to try XP SP2 out

    Thank you.

    Kitty

WinXP will run on your Intel Corei5.  If your copy is only licensed for 1 machine, you cannot install it on another.
    After install, upgrade to SP3.
BTW, I think your Asus motherboard is DDR3, not DR2.
You do understand that your WinXP  is likely a 32-bit & will only recognize & support about 3GB RAM.

Maybe you should tell us more about the WinXP discs you have.  I suspect they came with a Dell, HP or Compaq, etc.
