incoming calls via messenger

I would appreciate a little help with the following issue.  Up til 3 months ago I did not have computer issues. But now when someone is calling me through yahoo messenger, they can hear me talk, type, but I can not hear them etc. My speakers r working properly according to the computer. I can play cds, videos etc without any issues. but with yahoo messenger I know longer hear their phone ring nor can I hear anyone respond to me.  Thanks

Then it's a messenger setting that has somehow gotten changed...since it worked before...

then how do I know what to change? I have not cahnged anything on messenger
