Hide my ip address?????

i was wondering about this topic...hiding my ip address....
is it possible for someone like me who doesn't know much about computer to do so?
isnt this illegal? or is it legal?
is there a very simple way to learn how to hide my ip address?

if so i would be thanful for tips thank you

It is not legal. The are a number of places that offer this service for those that need it.
Many are free. Search using the keywords "free proxy service" and find many places that can help you.

of course i have used google, but its a jungle out there and i dont know which one works and doesnt...

If you have a mic of Linux and Windows PCs and you want to share files between them. You can use Samba.

Now if you want to make files  available on the Internet, That is a lot more work.

thank you geek-9pm for these info but i dont think samba is what i need, as im not after sharing files.
more so surfing to various websites without they knowing my ip address like blogs ex..
ex if i wanted to post a comment on a blog, what would i do so my ip address wouldnt show? or perhaps a different ip address would come up...

What you want to do is often considered dishonest. Using a proxy one could log into the same site with several user names and a new IP for each one. Is that fair to the other users?

At this point in time there is a power struggle as to who will be the King of the Internet. Use of a proxy helps reduce the power of a group over individuals. But  any tool can be used for good or bad.

i know this is dishonest to do this, but im not going to do this to everyone, its just a boyfriend/girlfriend issue here you see. just want to learn this...but it looks to be so complicated though, but thank you once again for the information!

There is nothing illegal about Proxy Servers. What law would they be breaking?

It's not illegal to use proxy servers. It's what you do with them.

I read the other day that Steam will ban your account if you use their software through a proxy. It's in their EULA... so watch out!

Free proxies are generally pretty slow. Get Tor Browser.

Just wanted to state that there are easier ways to trap and read information later that will not have an IP. If they are living with you and you use a shared computer, and you want to capture ALL KEYS TYPED ... They make a neat keyboard logger that plugs in between the keyboard and the PC which is undetectable as long as someone doesnt look around the back of the computer and spot the device. This device saves all keystrokes in which later you can view them when the boyfriend isnt around and even be able to print out a copy of the text if need be from notepad etc.  Legal to use in your own household, but questionable legality if planted at a boyfriends residence since its a hack job.

Apart from the technical issue - can it be done practically? the legal issue - can it be done legally? there is the moral issue - is it right to do this? How can it ever be right to spy on a loved one?
