    3 displays on eyefinity?
    « on: August 31, 2012, 05:16:50 PM »
    hey guys
i just built a new desktop in the last few days and i splurged and got 3 monitors. Im trying to set them up on amd's Eyefinity and am having a heck of a time haha
i can get eyefinity to recognize all 3 screens, but its only letting me create a display using 2?
Also, under control panel, windows wont have anything to do with the third monitor. It also shows up, but cant save the settings for a 3-display setup.
2 of the monitors are connected via DVI, and the third is hooked up to displayport.
I can make any combination of a 2-monitor display i want, just not 3.

    heres my system specs:
    intel core i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40 GHz  3.80 GHz
    8GB ram
    64 bit OS
    ASUS HD7850 series
    (am i missing anything else?)

ive tried looking up a few guides but on most it appears the monitors are all recognized?
    Can someone help me out?

That's the problem.  Maximum of 2 monitors on 1 card.
There might be some cards that support more, but most don't.

i dont mean to question your knowledge or authority, but ive seen videos of other, older, lesser single cards running all three?
        for example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9iSPoG6sW8 @ 5:11?

EDIT: AMD's website says my card can support up to 6 displays?

I've tried to do 3 monitors on 1 card & it didn't work.
That's a special graphics card, note it has 2 DVI outputs & 1 Display Port, & takes up 2 slots.  What kind of card do you have?  Most have a 1-VGA, 1-DVI, 1-HDMI on 1 card.  When they are on 1 card, you can use only 2 of them.  I think it's an issue of no more than 2 monitors on 1 slot due to bandwidth limitations of the PCI-e slot.

        EDIT:
I see your AMD reference & the minimum for that series is 3 displays.
It appears you have the proper hardware, now, what about the required software to make it work?

As far as i know it's required that 1 monitor in a 3 monitor setup uses DisplayPort in order to get this feature working.
        The cake is a lie...

          3x Samsung S24B240 monitors

2 are connected via DVI, 1 through display port with active dvi-displayport adapter

Motherboard or System Make & Model
          Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H, intel chipset

          Motherboard BIOS Version
"American Megatrends Inc." (?) version F5

          Good evening kamikaze33

First things first. All I can say nice, nice & sweet ;D ;D ;D

Now on to your displays are you trying to extend the displays / desktop or are you mirroring?

What resolution are you trying to do?

And yes it can be done on your video card, if windows / AMD Catalyst is seeing all three and if the display adapter is active cable. Is the cable one piece or are using a cable and a adapter to make the connection.

They just have to be set as display #1 and then combine them if you want to use them all as one big monitor is that what you want to do?

Hope to hear from you soon,, Mike
Statement of the day.  The IT person asked. What kind of computer do you have and the customer replied a white one why?

            hey mike,

i got it all working today! turns out my displayport adapter was passive. Solved it by picking up an active adapter for $3 more! absolutely loving the 3 screens now!

PS: commando, for future reference, i guess things have changed a bit since you tried? to confirm, im now running all 3 screens, 2 via DVI and the third via the ACTIVE displayport adapter, from one card and everythings working great! :)
