I'm in need of some help regarding hardware upgrades for my PC

Hi

I'm in deep need of some help. I currently have a semi-decent PC for gaming but I feel like it is time to upgrade because I am starting to get fps issues and such with the new and most demanding titles.

Here is what I've got now:

AMD Athlon 7550 dual core 2.5GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450
4GB RAM (DDR2)
Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 Rev 2.0 AM2 Motherboard
650W Power Supply
Windows 7 Ultimate



Now from what I know AM2 processors are outdated so I would be looking for AM3 or intel, however they don't work with my motherboard so I guess a new motherboard is required. If that is the case that motherboard would probably need  DDR3 RAM so I would have to buy these as well as the processor. So that's 3 things that I need to buy so far, processor, RAM and motherboard... right?

Could anyone reccomend me any good processors and motherboards (I've got around £500 budget at max but that's for the whole upgrade not just a few parts)

I'm also having thoughts on replacing my graphics card with something like the nvidia gtx 560(or is there anything better that doesn't cost significantly more and does better job?)


Or shall I just scrap everything to *censored* and buy a gaming PC for £800-900

Before I can give you any suggestions I do have a couple of questions

How big is your PS (powers supply) and who's is it?

What OS (operating system) and bit version do you have?

What size is your case a mini ATX or full size ATX?

Good evening tinkytinky and welcome back to CH

That MoBo does take AM3 CPU's http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128342 if you want to save money why not just get a faster CPU if you want and a faster video card?

What bit version of W7 UT are your going to use 64 bit? and if you are going to stay with your MoBo it will take up to 8 gigs even knowing you may want a newer board with DDR3.

You have a nice set up and with a couple of changes now then later upgrade the MoBo later on. The options are endless it is up to you.
