memory banks

memory bank 1 has a bad socket. is it possible to leave it blank and place memory starting with socket 2

Depends on the motherboard make/model, type of RAM chips and if the are DDR. More info would increase the likelihood of a correct response.  ::) ::) ::)

    Seems to me like the easiest answer to this question is to try it and see.  But I can't guarantee what kind of a mark your teacher would give you for that answer.  ;)
