    wht should i do to prevent such a thing in future.

      If it failed. It had for a good reason. Assumeing it's a 98 machine it's around 350 watts.

      Where do you get it's a 98 machine from that Post ? ?
      At any rate it needs replaced...they are NOT worth trying to fix.

        States that is the is he uses.  Only good thing is scrap for a tech fans molex cords......
