    C_Hopes' HiJack This Page Link
    « on: November 05, 2012, 02:43:42 PM »
I haven't been on this site for months and months, more fool me, totally different from what l used to know, and l must say that it is certainly well set out from what l've seen.
There used to be page you could bring up whereby you copied and pasted the output from Hijack This into it, and it gave recommendations of what to do. I used to have this bookmarked but it is no longer.
Is it still in operation and if so, has anyone got the link?
    Thanks

Hijack This is pretty much a dated utility at this point and the developer has released it to open source. Depending on what you're trying to do, there are much better options out there.

Evil - That's the one l was thinking of!
Allan - If HJT is slightly old hat now, are there any alternatives to this?
      Thank you both very much.

      Autoruns is one alternative.

HJT is still useful for checking/removing BHOs and some startups.

I'm not an HJT fan because it's too easy to brick your system if you don't know what you're doing. As EF says, Autoruns is good, but it depends on exactly what it is you're trying to do. Until you tell us, it's hard to recommend anything.

Well Allen, that's exactly why on most forums I've been to which includes a removal specialist team don't put up links to HJT except on a per-case basis and strongly state that you should never ever follow the advice in another thread or that of a non-expert.

Sorry everyone, l wasn't trying to cause an "argument"!
I'm no computer whizz so use this function purely as a guide, and l check up on what it makes suggestions to do.
It has never let me down thus far and after running HJT through C_Hopes' scanner on the odd occasion, which l have the utmost faith in, there has definitely been a few errors flagged that needed deletion.
As to the question what am l trying to do - Well l know what programs are in my startup via msconfig, but l use the HJT scanner to detect possible problems that certain programs may slip in via the back door!
Anyway, l'm happy to have the link back, and don't worry, will not delete anything until l check it out first.
        Many thanks to all.
