    why is there a lock icon next to a file to

    So i went to my computer then clicked the hard drive to see what files are in there and one of the files under my hard drive has a lock next ti it and when i try to access the files in that locked file it says i dont have pernission to access it. Why? Did someone in my house hold download something and lock those files somehow...please help me

    Looks like a leftover file from Windows Update. You can try either MoveOnBoot (http://emcosoftware.com/move-on-boot) or Unlocker (http://www.filehippo.com/download_unlocker/)

    Regardless, I wouldn't spend a lot of time worrying about it.

    The lock icon means the permissions of the folder are more restricted than those of the parent folder.

    This is in this case certainly the result of Windows Update, as Allan has said.
    I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.
