Keyboard switched from English to French

I have a girlfriend that works in Windows 7 and she was typing away in English and when we sent to use to apostrophe it was an e with an accent (french).  How did she managed to do this and how to solve it. I could not help her since I am still in XP.  Thank you for all your help.

You may have to follow the instructions under the 'Add an input language' to add English first.

How do you know it is French?
It might be International English, which has the behavior mentioned. The International English is used by authors who need to type a few words in French, Portuguese or Spanish.

You van still type normal English while it is on.

Whenever this happens to me, pressing Left CTRL and Right SHIFT usually works. If it doesn't, just follow the directions from the above posts.
