    Bunch of different bluescreen issues
    « on: January 12, 2013, 01:32:54 PM »
    hey guys,
a friend helped me setup my computer a while back, and it has never fully worked like it should. Problem being, it bluescreens seemingly randomly. I havnt bothered to do anything until now because to be honest it hasnt been that much of an inconvenience. I know thats terrible. But i have just been too busy to get to it and i have been diligent when saving documents and backing everything up. Anyways,

    Specs:
    processor: intel core i5 3570k (3.40ghz; 4core)
    mobo: Gigabyte z77x-ud5h
    bios version/date: American Megatrends Inc. F5, 27/03/2012
    ram: 8gb ddr3
    gfx: amd radeon hd 7850
           catalyst version: 12.10
    os: windows 7 home premium 64-bit, service pack 1, direct x 11.0
power supply: 850watt OCZ modstreamm pro

under SYSTEM INFORMATION, the following drivers are listed as "critical." Im not sure if this will be related to my BSOD error codes, but ill post it just in case it will help EDIT: i see you cant really view the entire image on here; basically anything within the red square is listed as CRITICAL:

BSOD Error Codes; There is MANY of them, that BlueScreenView counts, ~25, ive attached 1 of each type of the most recent:

    Download BlueScreenView:
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

I deleted your last post and I apologize for asking you to repost the bsod's - I actually missed your first post in this thread. Were the bsod's always there?

Anyway, multiple and varied bsod's are usually indicative of either malware or a major hardware failure (motherboard, cpu, etc). If your sure it isn't malware, please check the ram. If that passes, my guess is that you need a new mobo.

To check the ram, download memtest (http://memtest.org/). Burn it to a cd using a dedicated .iso burning utility (http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm), make sure the cd drive is at the top of the boot order in bios, then boot to the newly created cd and run the utility.

I'm thinking RAM as one thing to check: both testing with Memtest and also asking is it compatible? Is it good quality? How many sticks? (If multiple try subtracting each in turn) We just got told "8 GB ddr3".

Also since it has never worked reliably since being built at home assisted by "a friend", maybe a thorough check that everything is installed and seated correctly might be a good idea.

Any of the above are possible, but I'm still thinking mobo. I've been through this with a dozen or more systems with precisely the same symptoms (each bsod different and frequently recurring) and in all but one instance it was the mobo.

        I'm still thinking mobo.

On the Tweaktown Forums, Gigabyte section, I found this thread, 18 pages long, 304 posts so far (the most recent "3 weeks ago") titled "GZ-Z77X-UD5H Random freezing and shutdowns"

        http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/48463-gz-z77x-ud5h-random-freezing-shutdowns.html

Lots of suggestions, sometimes successful, sometimes not, plenty of returned boards mentioned...

the memtest turned up zero errors.

          2 sticks of Corsair Vengeance.

What should i do now? Check that all my hardware is seated properly? To the best of my knowledge it was; what should i be looking for specifically? Loose mounting hardware/wires?

EDIT: Also if it will help, im running my OS from an intel SSD (Intel SSDSC2CT120A3, 120gb) of which i cannot put into sleep mode. If i try, the computer will crash upon bringing it out. I was told that SSD's simply "dont like" sleep mode, and that it is a fundamental hardware thing that "disables" them from being able to effectively use sleep mode. I always thought it was hogwash, but i wouldnt consider myself knowledgeable enough to question it.

Might i also try updating my bios version? Im running version F5 and from their page (http://ca.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4440#bios) i see there are multiple updates since the f5 version

SSD's have been known to cause all sorts of problems. It's almost certainly either that or the motherboard, and I'm still leaning toward the motherboard.

As for updating the bios, go ahead - it's not going to hurt anything.

Before you ditche the MBoard borrow a known good PSU of the same or greater wattage and swap it in there....

              will do!

If in the event i do have to ditch my mobo, should i get the same model or a better one?
