PCI or AGP?
« on: July 15, 2004, 10:46:13 PM »
I have a 2003 Gateway PC, Specs:
Pentium 4 2.0 GHz
256 MB DDR RAM(DIMM)
Intel 82845G/GL Graphics Controller

In the BIOS menu, it said it was running on AGP configuration.  I recently installed a new nVidia GeForce4 MX440 with 64 MB RAM graphics card.  It is a PCI card so I put it in the PCI slot.  It was not working well so I went into BIOS and changed it to PCI instead of AGP.  Now, it works but I am wondering if changing to PCI from AGP will change anything else?

I donot think you changed your PCI slot to an AGP port, you rather told your computer what to use first.

I donot believe you can install a PCI card into an AGP slot. If you can, it will be of no use considering that the PCI card will not make full use of the AGP capabilities

You can, however, install an AGP card in a PCI slot. Do note that performance will degrade.
