Sharing an internet connection - question
« on: October 07, 2005, 04:20:24 AM »
Hey, not sure if this is the right forum...but anyway...

I share a web connection with another pc in the house. We are both connected via one cable between the PC's (Mine is connected like a phone cable which runs to a seperate box that is in the same room as the other computer, so it's not directly connected to the other pc.)

My question, which is probably stupid to someone who knows about PC's:

Can information between the two pc's be exchanged without your knowledge? For example, can files on my PC be viewed on the other PC?

Thanks.

Depends if file sharing is enabled, and how it is setup. Yes, it is VERY possible.

Any ideas how to find out if file sharing is enabled?

Thanks.

When you go to my computer, look at the drive icon- if it has a hand holding it is is shared. You can also right click on the drives and view the properties it should tell you if it is shared. In windows XP is you look in the folder called shared documents it should show you what is shared - like a printer etc.
