    HDMI XPS 8500
    « on: February 21, 2013, 03:52:19 PM »
    Hi,

The HDMI port on the back of my 8/2012, XPS 8500 has a cap with a circle and a slash on it.

Does this mean I can't use a HDMI cable to connect it to my tv?

Or does it just mean I need to pop that cap out?  It does come out :)

    My thanks...m

The desktop PC you have is made by Dell.
It came with a video card made by AMD. Is that right?

The video card is not  well understood. Is it the HD 7570?
On the Dell forum users report concern over how to use that  card.
You may have to buy more hardware to drive two monitors from the one card.

    Have you read this?

      Hi,
I popped the cap out and plugged it in but it turns out that port apparently is to the onboard graphics?, and I needed to plug it in to my dedicated graphics card, yes, the 7570.  So I did that.  It shows my desktop on the tv also, now.
But I haven't figured out how to get to it to work the way I want.  I'm having a hard time figuring out what type of display connection I want?  And getting my pc to be the main display.
I want to be able to watch a Netflix movie on the tv as display monitor while I work on my desktop pc which is in the same room.  Is that even possible?
      Thank you for your help.....m
p.s.  Yes, I had read that, he is wanting 3 displays.  Thank you for going to the trouble to post the link anyway!  Thanks again.

      Yes, you can do that.
Here is an earler post on CH.
      http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?topic=123163.0
      Here is the Microsoft way.
      http://www.microsoft.com/athome/organization/twomonitors.aspx#fbid=a6IuRt42ENb
The displays can be either left and right or reverse.
BTW: Netflix opens in a browser. So use 'open in new windows option so that you can adjust the position on the second monitor.
You can do your work in either monitor. The Desktop shows on Monitor #1, but you can drag some of your shortcuts to the second monitor.

I'm sorry, I'm back with another problem concerning this set up :(

Now that the HDMI is connected and working....when I use the desk speakers instead of the tv speakers there is a hum in the desktop speakers and the volume isn't very loud even though it is set to 100%.

I'm guessing it is interference from the HDMI cable but what can I do to correct it?
In Dell audio devices (in my task bar)  I have to pick which audio I want AMD HDMI Output which is the tv speakers or Speakers which are my desktop, medium size, Logitech speakers.
It's just since I added the HDMI cable that I get this hum now in the desktop speakers when using them.

Am I just going to have to use the tv speakers all the time?
Or is it the quality of the cable I bought (the least expensive 20.00 one)?

          Again....thanks, m

Are these desktop speakers powered off of USB? I have seen systems get hums on the PC speakers when the USB power is noisy from other parts of systems drawing power away from power supply. The easy fix is simply to replace the desktop speakers with ones that are not powered by USB and powered on their own independent of the computers power.

            Morning,
The speakers (Logitech) are plugged into the audio connecter on the back of the pc.  Not in a usb.
They worked fine until I plugged in the HDMI cable.
            Thanks, m
