More info would be helpful.  Your OS?  Is the mouse a cordless or corded one? If corded, is it connected by USB or a PS/2 connection?   What brand and model is the mouse?  Can you see any pattern to when the mouse freezes?  In other words, does this tend to happen when you're using a certain program?

I work in Windows XP and I use a cordless mouse.  It can happen at any time and when it does I noticed the light is flickering on C drive so something has to be updating or scanning without my permission.
