Why is my new Alienware laptop slower than my old Dell !!?
    « on: June 30, 2013, 04:55:33 AM »
I play slot tournaments at an online casino.  I wanted more spins in the 3 minutes allowed as I see other players getting more spins than me, so I forked out £800 for an Alienware laptop as my inspiron 1721 only has a windows experience score of 3 - the Alienware has 5.9.

You get about 40 spins in three minutes but it varies because of 'bonus rounds'.  On normal spins I get about 40 spins on the Dell and only 39 on the Alienware which surely should not be so. But the biggest difference is on the bonus rounds - it takes about 45 seconds to play the bonus round on the Alienware , but only 37 seconds on the Dell.  As soon as the round starts the Dell loads the window in about one second and starts playing it , but the Alienware takes about 8 seconds to load it.  ( I can only imagine it is something to do with cookies holding the info about the bonus round ?)

I upgraded my virgin 20mb to 60mb and got the superhub - I have tried the Alienware on wireless and have it hardwired at the moment- speedtest shows it is getting 60mb speed.   The Dell is on wireless , and as I have not updated the wireless card is still showing 20mb on the speedtest --  but it is still faster !  The Dell has vista and firefox as the browser, the alienware has chrome and windows 7  --  but I do not know if the browser has any impact (would like to know) - because although the casino was downloaded through the browser it now has its own icon which I click on , so I am not opening it thru the browser

    Anyone got any suggestions?

It's hard to say exactly what the difference in speed is down to, especially without knowing the exact specifications, or at least make and model, of the two PCs involved.
When you open the casino game, is it a separate application, or does it then open in the browser?
Do you have a link to show us exactly which site this is from?

The casino is  ---  http://www.jackpotcity.co.uk/   -  you download it onto your computer , then it has its own icon so you do not go into a browser to open it - so it is a separate application.

      The older but faster laptop is a dell inspiron 1721 - amd athlon 64 x2 dual-core 1.79gz   -----    ram is 1 gb  -  32-bit operating system

the alienware m15x is an intel core i7 cpu    ---  q720 @ 1.6 ghz  - with 8 gb of ram and a 64 bit  operating system
