Computer Boots Into ASUS Recovery Wizard

Hello!

I am aware that there are two threads similar to this one, but the solutions from those threads do not satisfy my needs. I run Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on an ASUS A75VM laptop. Whenever I boot up, the 'Starting Windows' screen flashes, then it proceeds into a black screen with a filling grey bar. This eventually leads into some command prompts, and into the ASUS recovery wizard. Sometimes though, it goes into a big fat red ERROR, with the window titled asrecoveryhd. When I go into my BIOS, I find that my HDD is not on my boot list, which worries me. The only two things is the 'Windows Boot Manager' and my CDROM. <link removed> Here is the download link to all my screenshots, just for reference. From my research, I'm pretty positive that this is some sort of virus, unless I really screwed up my registry. Also, I'm pretty sure that all my hardware is fine as I have never dropped my laptop before. I've also tried using the BitDefender rescue program. I put it into a USB stick, but I'm not really sure how to use it exactly. I don't want to mess things up.

Hopefully I can fix this problem without having to do a recover of any sort, as I don't really want to re-install all my programs and that stuff. Thanks!

Sorry about forgetting to mention this. I cannot access my desktop nor my files at all. It just keeps booting into the recovery wizard.

Why not run the Recovery. It can't make things much more damage. You're files and data will be ok if you just run the Recovery.

In msconfig, I closed the Adobe Updaters, that's it.

I just don't want to install all my stuff and lose almost all of my program data, so I'm looking for an alternative.

If you run the Recovery Console and just choose Repair all you files and programs will remain intact. If you can't run a Repair I will provide a prgram below which will boot your computer and give you a chance to recover all your files and important data but the programs may not be able to be saved.

We are going to be using a Windows Recovery Environment to help disinfect the system so it may boot again.

Download the OTLPE Standard REATOGO Windows Recovery Environment.

• Place a blank CD-R disc in to your CD burning drive.
• Download OTLPEStd.exe and double-click on it to burn to a CD using an ISO Burner. One can be found here.
  
• Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.
• Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
  
• Your system should now display a REATOGO-X-PE desktop.
• Double-click on the OTLPE icon.
  
• When asked "Do you wish to load the remote registry", select Yes
  
• When asked "Do you wish to load remote user profile(s) for scanning", select Yes
  
• Ensure the box "Automatically Load All Remaining Users" is checked and press OK
  
• OTL should now start. Change the following settings
  
• Change Drivers to Non-Microsoft
  
• Press Run Scan to start the scan.
  
• When finished, the file will be saved  in drive C:\_OTL\MovedFiles
  
• Copy this file to your USB drive if you do not have internet connection on this system
• Please post the contents of the OTL.txt file in your reply.

I really didn't do anything to the registry. I'm just saying that I accidentally done something that I didn't notice myself.

When I boot from the CD, it gets to the Windows XP start-up screen, followed quickly by the blue screen of death.

Changing something in the Registry is not something that one can do by mistake. I just needed to know if you intentionally did something there.

First of all, you need to be sure that you created the disk correctly. This is an ISO file and requires and ISO burner. Second, you need to change the BIOS to be sure that the first boot device is the CDROM. You can try the disk on a working computer to see if it's good.

I am very sure that I configured my BIOS correctly. I tried it on another computer, and the same thing happened. So I burned another one, but the same thing happened again. I'm also sure that I burned the ISO file properly, this has always worked with some of my other files, like music.

ISO is not a music file. It's an image file and requires an Image burner to create the disk. Check the instructions again, there's an image burner provided.

I meant to say an ISO file with music in it, but, whatever.

So I tried it on yet another computer, this time an HP, and it worked. Both ASUS computers failed to boot the same disk, what's with this? Just to be more detailed, when booting on my ASUS, it loads a progress bar with a caption 'Loading REATOGO', or something alike. When the progress bar is full, it pauses for about a minute, then the Windows XP booting screen lights up for a second or so, followed by the blue screen of death. On the HP, the XP booting screen leads successfully into the REATOGO recovery environment.

You have two ASUS computers that won't boot with the OTL disk?

Well the other one isn't mine, I borrowed it. That ASUS is relatively new, only 5 months.
Strangely the CD works fine on the HP, I wonder if the CD has something incompatible with ASUS computers.
