When setting up my new laptop for the first time I hadn't notice I had only typed in the first three letters of my name(joy) and its causing a lot of hassle when it comes to authorisation at times. I know how to edit it however it will not let me. Comes up with the message "cannot edit registered owner. Error writing the values new contents. Is there any way around this.

If you know the name you typed in, why not use that one?

It can be edited...however you would have to login under Admin priviledges and do so...
I'd login as joy since that's what you started with,,,
