internet problem
« on: October 15, 2005, 04:21:54 AM »
Hi

I'm a real greeny when it comes to computer matters, however on advice I have read on here have got AVG virus scanner, Ad-Aware spyware and Zone Alarm firewall and had no problems at all.

However last week my internet broadband provider (a reputable company) was advertising its own free PC Guard with virus scanner, anti spyware, firewall, parental control etc.  I had to uninstall all my other stuff to install this and when I'd done this had major problems with my internet.  It would go to the home page but would then take me to the following pages, the 1st and 3rd ones being *censored*.

http://213.193.215.174/ssredir/gb.html
http://www.megashoppingportal.com/uk/
http://www.virgins.se/index.php?ccode=UK&cnum=44

Every time I close down one page it would open up the other.  I was really p.....d off to say the least!!

I uninstalled the PC Guard and reinstalled all my original programs AVG, Ad-Aware and Zone Alarm and I have had no problems during the week.  However it has done it again today.  As soon as I try to enter one of my favourite websites, eg BBC food pages, it would take me to the first porn site, I would close this down and it would take me to the second site and so on.  I could not even get onto this website without going to the porn.

It has taken about 6 reboots for this to stop happening.  Bearing in mind I am a thicky when it comes to computer matters is there anything I can do or do I need professional help?

Any advice would be gratefully received.  I do not want bloody porn on my computer.  I am the only user of my computer so I don't have any worries on that score

cheers
debs

Spend a little time & read this link carefully.

It's not as bad as it looks.

It says to download & update the programs (you have them except for cwshredder & spybot).
Disable system restore & re-start in safe mode.
Run the scans & clean your computer.

Just to let you know what happened.

    Cheers for your replies.

Earlier today posted an internet problem under internet and the reply seemed to indicate I possibly might have had an infected computer.

Spent all day doing anti spyware and virus checks, followed the instructions exactly and it turns out that I had a Trojan as follows:

    File: dxvid.exe
    Result: Trojan horse  Downloader.Dluca.DO
    Path: c:\windows\system\dxvid.exe

I thought this would have probably cleared things up but as soon as I went onto internet the three dodgy sites came up again.

    I hate computers!!

I saw your Hijackthis logfile and although it needed a cleanup I didn't see what could have caused this in there, I'll talk to DL65 about it.

You did run cwshredder didn't you?

How is your browser going now?
