Custom built PC - no signal on monitor
    « on: September 03, 2013, 10:18:45 PM »
    Hi
So ive recently built a custom PC, when I turn it on all fans leds and harddrives are working yet I still get no signal. Im pretty sure it isn't a bad mobo or psu , I think it could be a faulty ram card. Is there any other reason why I could be getting no signal and how can I be sure it's a faulty ram card?
    Please help,
    Thanks
If you need more info just comment or reply or what ever it is.

If you turn it on with no RAM, you should get a beep code.
With  RAM installed, you should get two flashes o   keyboard lights. At first,  all three, then just one light on

But if you do not get the keyboard light sequence, you have a basic hardware problem.Look for smoke. If no smoke, test with a voltmeter. There should be +5 volts on the motherboard.

What are your full system specifications?
Try the system with only one module of memory at a time to rule out a bad stick of RAM.
Check all your PSU connections - you'll need just the 24 pin and 4 or 8 pin to the board to pass POST, plus power to the graphics card if you have one.
Remove the graphics card if you have onboard graphics to rule out a bad card.
Do you have the onboard speaker plugged in, and if so do you get any beeps from the system?

You get 3 beeps? Well, the CPU works, it knows the RAM is not there.

Does that motherboard have on board V\VGA? Try using only the built-in untill you get t hings working.

Have you checked your PSU connectors?  Again, you'll only need the 24 pin and 4 or 8 pin connector - leave everything else (HDDs, optical drives, etc) unplugged for now.

OK, so with just the 24 pin and 4/8 pin power connectors, CPU, and one stick of RAM, you're still getting no display on the monitor, and no beeps?
I would say it's likely that you have a faulty stick of RAM, you're basically left with either that, or in decreasing roder of probability, a short or bad connection, a bad board, or bad CPU.
You could try the motherboard outside the case, on a non conductive surface like cardboard (I usually use the motherboard box itself for this) with nothing else hooked up to rule out a short on the case or similar problems, but failing that I would try and obtain a second stick of RAM to test with, I feel that's most likely to be the issue here.

Ive recently had the same problem but solved it by putting the memory stick into a different memory slot.
