    URGENT-windows 7 totally messed up
    « on: September 10, 2013, 11:50:01 PM »
I have a windows 7 computer i got two years ago. I did some things to fix the network, and then left my computer there to 'sleep'. When i came back after eating lunch, I realized it was frozen solid. Completely frozen except for the mouse. Ctrl +alt + del does not work. Andthis has happened before, about 15times already. As you can see, im a little worried. When it happened in the past, I just force restarted and go into safe mode to troubleshoot or other ways to fix. But this time, im stuck: nothing works. The SFC SCANNOW command, the anti-malware, antivirus, the system restore all dis not work. Please help.
Note: i cannot start windows normally. if i do, i get stuck on the welcome screen or the users screen.

Do you have a Windows 7 Repair Disc? I'd try a repair of the system with one.

      Hey Dave,
I noticed that it's always happenning when my '360Chrome' . 360 freezes and I cant do anything about it. Nothing works. So i have to force shutdown(holding down power button). This has happened before, so I had reinstalled 360chrome. But it still freezes. Now, the 360chrome isnt an very good internet explorer, as it's from China and isn't fast. But I have got all my bookmarks in there. I want to now export the bookmarks and get another internet explorer(firefox), but now my computer is at 'welcome' going on forever.
Is there any other way rather than the repair disk? thanks

      360 Chrome is the culprit...
That being said connect the HDD to another working PC and retrieve your data including bookmarks and do a wipe and a clean install...

By now you should have made a backup of your system.  The repair is the only effective way to fix the system. Anything else is harder.

Looks like I need to use the repair disk.
But just a few minutes ago, my computer finally booted on my nearly 50th try with last good known configuration. But now it's in front of me, very laggy and slow. It looks like it's going to freeze any moment... :-\
Immediately I exported my bookmarks and stored them on my usb. And uninstalled 360chrome...
So what should I do now? I'm unsure of restarting my computer because it may shutdown and never come back again.
        Thanks

Some here have already been there. More than once.
If you get it frozen, find another computer and come here and somebody will walk you through the recovery steps.  :)

Hey Geek-9pm, fortunately, my computer did not freeze...it seemed to have survived. So I had uninstalled 360Chrome as I said, and I installed a new internet browser, which is the official Google Chrome. I thought I can just come back to computer hope and tell everyone that my problem is nearly gone, but, Google Chrome freezes too! I had force quit Google chrome using task manager.
Seems like no matter which browser I get, It always freezes, and if no immediate action is taken, it will freeze the whole computer. What can I try now?Get another browser?I don't really want to use recovery disk.
Is there anyway except the recovery disk?
          Thanks!

Well. yeah. But it is time consuming.  Get another browser using your other computer. Then transport it on USB.
Here is one that should work:
          http://www.opera-usb.com/operausben.htm
          Or try this one:
          http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/Internet/Browsers/Windows-Portable-Applications-Portable-Maxthon-Browser.shtml
Both are portable browsers that do not need installation.

Worth-a-try-department: Cre4ate a new user account and log into it. The problem may go away if the user account was zonked. It happens. Might be a virus.  :-\

Hey Geek-9pm. I got the opera broswer, and it seems to work fine. I also did a virus scan with AVG and Malwarebytes free, which checked out a few items and secured them. So now my computer appears to be fixed. Well at least it haven't frozen on the browser.
Unforunately, it froze on shut down. So I had restarted it, and it went fine.
But I am still a little bit worried if there's still some minor(or might be major, but appears to be little things) problems on my laptop. The browser have not freezed, and looks like my laptop is better than it was a week ago :)
            thanks

Have you check the hard drive health status for any bad sectors?
Try downloading Speccy and then install the program.  To post and publish a snapshot of your PC.
. In the Menu bar, click File -> Publish Snapshot
. Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard
. On your next reply, right-click on a empty space and click Paste on reply box then click Post.

Download MiniToolBox and open/run the program.
When open, checkmark or select all options then click Go.
A notepad will open then copy-paste the report on your next reply.

Initial readings for List of Installed Programs shows that you have Trend Micro Security, Bitdefender and AVG both installed. I would suggest removing all of them completely and use Free Microsoft Security Essentials.

              http://esupport.trendmicro.com/solution/en-us/1056551.aspx
There are also listed unwanted toolbars (whitesmoke). Please see this link and follow the instructions provided.

Please remove outdated java plugins and update to the latest version.
.NET Frameworks installed shows both Full and Client Versions. If Full version is not needed, please uninstall it also.

See or check for updated drivers from this link.

Hey Jason Thanks for your reply. I don't  have trend micro and bit defender. I only have at. Strange that it mentions it. Also, I have removed whitesmoke

Well, i think the reason it mentions bitdefender is that I haven't completely removed it. It was a year ago, and I could not uninstall bit defender. First I used the UNINSTALL PROGRAMS feature in control panel, failed. Then I tried my old friend: Revo Uninstaller, but didn't work too. Well, it is removed(I cannot open the BitDefender interface), but somehow windows keeps sayinbg that it's still there. And for trend micro, I have no idea.

But I believe I only have AVG installed :). It's not the best, but it's easy to use and got one star(standard) in AV Comparatives' detection tests.
                  Thanks
