129 updates are a lot, I am guessing that its been a while since this was last updated or a somewhat recent install in which all updates were never completed. As far as windows 7 goes, I did have a problem with my wifes prior system not wanting to take SP1. Is this laptop running on SP0 or SP1? I fought with it for a few hours and gave up and backed up all data and then installed a clean install to it which fixed the issue as for even the earliest restore point had whatever the corruption was to cause SP1 to crash.
