Yeah that topic title was intended to resemble Episode 4.
I'm big on the game Star Wars: The Old Republic. It's an mmo which, before anyone else says it, runs a very poor engine (Hero Engine). My problem is that despite the current hardware I have and all the things I've tried to fix this, I still maintain a low 11-15 fps when engaging in PvP. Now I have tried a bunch of different things but none of them truly helped.
My Current Rig:
Motherboard: GA-970A-D3 (AM3 Socket)
CPU: AMD FX-8120 3.12 GHz (8 Cores)
RAM: 12 GB
GPU: GeForce GTX 760 4GB
Direct X Version: 11 (though I also have installed Direct X 9 on it's own folder, game is supposed to run better with it)
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium
After many suggestions, videos, guides, and links. I'm almost sure that my computer's poor game performance is linked to my CPU. If I remember correctly, there's something within it's design and Windows 7 that prevents it from properly distributing it's resources among the cores during a load, which the game would qualify. I have already gone into the registry and disabled it's core parking, so that all 8 cores are active all the time, however this has only increased my fps slightly. I have also gone into the BIOS and changed the way the cores ad used, so that it's running 4 cores (really
but using 2 cores as 1, if that makes sense. And so far it's been better, but it's still not what it should be from a 8 core processor. The problem isn't that I'm always in bad fps, it's that when I engage in any form of game play that involves interaction beyond my end and the game mechanics: PvP, the game has random fps drops and it's usually very sluggish.
I don't have a big enough budget to purchase a new machine, but I do have a 200-400 range to upgrade in terms of CPU, sadly since the motherboard has AM3 sockets, I'm stuck with AMD. So I have to the best I can with what I have.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or solutions you have!
