Im haveing problem with Age of Empires 3
« on: October 20, 2005, 08:54:19 PM »
Im hoping somebody here can help.  I very recently bought AOE3, I started installing and everything went well until it asked for disk 3,  I put in disk 3 and it kept asking for it even though it was already in the drive.  I took the game back to where I bought it and told them my problem and they gave me another copy.  I took the game home and I had the same problem again.  Its incredibly frustrating, because theres no error message or anything its like the disk isnt even there, the only sign i get from the computer that the disk is even the drive is the little LED light keeps blinking very rapidly.  Do any of you know anything avoot this

Is there a way to uninstall the first 2 disc do a registry cleaner and start over new installation. For some funny reason when installation gets messed up for no reason it throws your computer way outa wack. By the way do you meet the system requirements?

Would the system requirements be a big issue?  Because it asks for a 1.4 ghz and i have a 1.1.  But i wouldn't think that would effect whether or not my computer could read the disk.  And i've ran the demo of the game.

It could very well be it's way of "throwing up" during the install. That is a Microsoft game right?

The odds of two CD's in a row being bad are slim to none. There is something about your hardware it doesn't like, and that is the most obvious suspect.

Try that CD on another computer that meets the requirements, just to make sure. Then, if you can find someone with a PIII-800 or so, try it on there to see if you can recreate the incident.

If that is the case:

A) Buy another computer or upgrade that one

or

B) Find another game to play (This would be cheaper!)

Depends on the motherboard. What make and model. Generally a PIII or Celeron of that vintage topped out about there.

I think the clock speed on an Athlon 2500 is about 1400 Mhz. or more. Perhaps it is in the way the game is reading the chip (incorrectly).

You should not have a problem with that unless it is hard coded for Intel chips only, and I doubt that.

There may be a patch on the Microsoft site for that.

I just checked and the clock speed for that chip is 1883 Mhz.

What does the machine say when it boots up on the first screen you see before the Windows logo? If it identifies it as an XP2500+ then that is correct. If you get ANY other number, then the jumper settings for the multiplier on the motherboard are wrong and you've been running too slow (since the beginning?).

The 2500+ Barton is a fine chip and still has value!

Again what make and model of motherboard or computer? It should be on there as well.

I don't understand what you saw on that first screen. What was it again?

Then can you go into the setup screen (BIOS screen)? There is a key  or key combination to get there. It should tell you what it is on that same first screen.

Then you were in fact ripped off. That sounds like an Athlon Thunderbird to me.

Download Everest Home Edition at lavalys.com

It's a small download and free. It will tell you what's in that bad boy. It will take just a second.

I was going to bed but I want to see how this turns out.

Was that a custom build or an off the shelf purchase?

Let me know. I think I want to avoid them!

I was afraid of that. The Thunderbird was good for it's time and price, but it definitely is NOT a 2500! We may have answered the original question and more besides, eh?

Do you still have a receipt for that?

Well, whether or not you want to pursue it is your decision, but I hope you won't buy from them again.

I feel like I've been in a chat room all night   :o , so I am going to retire.

Feel free to come and post anytime. There's usually some one around!
